CROSSBROOK STANDARD POODLES
PUPPIES HAVE ARRIVED
The Cheese Shoppe officially opened February 4th
And the Circus came to town on February 28th
Just when you thought life could NOT get sweeter!
2018 has started out beautifully!
Salem delivered 8 beautiful babies on February 4th! Kitsue Standard Poodles trusted us with her beautiful girl, Salem. I know she would be proud of how we are reflecting on her reputation.
We are not a high volume kennel.
EVERY litter is born in our house, and become members of our family until they go on to become treasured members of their forever families!
AND on February 28th, a Circus rolled into town!
Iris and Max created a beautiful group of performers! So much sweetness and joy fill Crossbrook these days!
The Cheese Shoppe...Asiago, Brie, Queso, Gouda, Colby, Monterey Jack, Feta and Nacho!
We have numerous years of experience, numerous UKC Champions, and even Grand Champions in our pedigrees. But most important, we are producing healthy, loving, beautiful puppies for families all over the world! So when you start your search for a puppy, please contact us! We would love to play a role in finding you the perfect puppy! We welcome phone calls any time, and are happy to refer to other excellent breeders who honor the same breeding goals that we do even if Crossbrook doesn't have a litter perfect for you! Being a groomer myself, I can answer questions about grooming requirements for your poodle, which is something you should consider when thinking about adding a standard poodle to your family!
There are many high volume kennels out there, producing dogs of questionable parentage and socialization. Please do your research and watch for obvious red flags.
This is in NO way a slanderous remark towards any other breeders. We choose to raise our puppies in our home, shower them with love and attention all day long :) We are happy to explain what a difference this makes in the temperament of your new puppy.
Now a little about us....
As a child,my first dog was a miniature poodle....hence the loyalty to the breed :)
Our dogs are members of our family, live in our house and are spoiled on a daily basis. We live in Webster Groves, Missouri, just west of St. Louis. Our dream of breeding standard poodles has been a remarkable journey.
A journey filled with a few bumps along the way.
Our first standard, Lily, developed Addison's disease at a young age and lived only 3 1/2 years. This heartbreak caused us to look for breeders who were keeping a close eye on pedigrees and PRH results that would lessen the chance for future heartbreak.
We found such a breeder, Sue Abeln of Kit-sue's Poodles . Her determination to develop the healthy parti poodles has been proven generation after generation. When I met Sue many years ago, I had no idea how much her friendship would mean to me. So much joy and sorrow. Sue lost her fight with lung cancer in October of 2016. And while she is gone, her bloodlines and love of this breed will live on at Crossbrook. Our newest girl, Salem (renamed in honor of the place Sue lived and loved until her death), was Sue's pride and joy, Sue saw much promise in Salem. We are honored and humbled to have her here. Watch for great things to come from Salem :)
Our puppies will be under our watchful eye from the moment they are born. The whelping room is in the sun room just outside our bedroom so we can check on them, best of all play with them, all the time. Since the puppies are born in our house, we are there when the whelping begins and for the 9 weeks afterwards. They will be very socialized! We have more dogs in our family than we have people! Family and friends come by for a "puppy fix" when the babies are old enough for visitors.
Local families who have chosen a puppy will be encouraged to visit at LEAST weekly! There are several reasons for this, the most important being.....you will bond with your puppy! And the other puppies will get visited as well, just try not to love on them when they crawl all over you :) This also builds confidence in the puppies when they meet new people, and they remember you each time....so good for everyone! You may also be asked to help :) They need their nails trimmed every few days and sometimes it takes an extra hand to do it quickly :) Help with pictures is always nice, and don't even get me started on bath day....I take all the help I can get :)
Our litters have a "theme"......pictures are posted weekly on the website, and at least once a day on our facebook page! Some may see this as a chore....I love doing it :)
Puppies will have their tails docked at a much longer/show length, their dew claws removed, shots and worming as they grow too! Being a groomer myself, grooming starts at an early age around here, so faces will be shaved at around 3 weeks so your puppy will be used to being groomed, nails trimmed every few days helps too! Pictures will be taken every week so you can watch them grow! And I promise to go above and beyond to socialize them! We have family and friends here often, and they are exposed to a multitude of sights and sounds! Personalities are my priority, so you end up with a show quality, healthy, loving puppy!
At 8 weeks old we take a ride to our vet so Dr. Fegens can go over each one from the tip of their nose the tip of their tails. After they are given a clean bill of health.....of to the new family at 9 weeks old!
We choose to keep our puppies here until 9 weeks of age, we believe that this makes for a better adjusted, more confident puppy! They learn to play nice with litter mates which will reduce nipping at their new homes :) You're welcome!
Thanks for visiting, enjoy our website, and I hope someday you will have a standard poodle to love! They really are the best!
